Orthodontic treatment is not just a matter of aesthetics
Teeth that are misaligned, crowded or do not make proper contact are much more than just an aesthetic flaw. It is almost impossible to clean plaque properly from between misaligned teeth, which can lead to early tooth decay and gum inflammation. An incorrect bite can also cause facial asymmetry, abnormal tooth wear and chronic pain in the temporomandibular joint.
Although Gere Dental’s core specialism is the invisible, removable Smilezor® aligners, we recognise that there are certain complex anomalies or individual patient preferences for which fixed orthodontic appliances represent the most optimal and safest solution.

When, in addition to moving the teeth, a thorough structural reorganisation of the entire dental arch is required.
Severe crowding and misaligned teeth

Extraction of teeth trapped in the gum or bone (e.g. canines) and their integration into the dental arch.

Traditional metal braces
Traditional metal braces remain the most widely used and mechanically most stable solution in dentistry to this day. This appliance consists of brackets made from medical-grade stainless steel and the metal archwire that connects them.
What problem does it solve?
It is capable of effectively and predictably correcting any degree of crowding, rotational requirements and severe malocclusion.
How does it work?
The dentist secures the archwire to the brackets using small rubber bands (ligatures). It is particularly popular amongst teenagers and children that the colour of the rubber bands can be changed at will at each check-up, making the appliance unique and fashionable.

Traditional semi-aesthetic braces
The semi-aesthetic system combines aesthetic requirements with the stability of metal appliances, whilst keeping costs within reasonable limits.

It offers a solution for those who would like fixed braces but wish to avoid the conspicuous appearance of metal in the area most visible when smiling.
How does it work?
Discreet, tooth-coloured ceramic brackets are fitted to the most visible front teeth (the smile zone), whilst extremely strong metal brackets are bonded to the back molars, which remain hidden whilst speaking and smiling.

Traditional ceramic braces
Traditional ceramic braces are the perfect choice for anyone who wants to say goodbye to a ‘metal smile’ and is looking for a much more discreet, aesthetically pleasing solution.
What problem does it solve?
It corrects moderate to severe malocclusions whilst remaining virtually unnoticeable on the teeth.
How does it work?
The brackets are made from premium-quality ceramic with a matt finish, which blends naturally with the colour of your teeth. The small rubber bands that hold the archwire in place are also available in either a transparent or tooth-coloured finish, depending on your preference.

It has a much more understated and elegant appearance than metal, whilst the effort required and the end result are just as precise.
Premium (sapphire crystal) ceramic braces
These premium ceramic braces combine discreet elegance with cutting-edge technology. We recommend them to businesspeople and discerning adults who, whilst having the highest aesthetic expectations, do not wish to compromise on the precision offered by fixed braces.
What problem does it solve?
It can handle orthodontic cases of any complexity whilst ensuring the highest possible level of visual discretion.
How does it work?
These veneers are not made from ordinary ceramic, but from a laboratory-grown material of sapphire-crystal purity that is completely transparent. Not only do they mimic the colour of the teeth, but they also allow the natural colour to show through, making them almost completely invisible.
The benefits of the treatment
The sapphire crystal in the 100% is resistant to discolouration caused by coffee, tea, red wine and food, so it retains its brilliance right through to the end of the treatment. The surface of the clasp is specially polished and rounded, ensuring maximum comfort and preventing chafing of the lips.
Self-ligating metal braces
Self-ligating metal braces are a new-generation, top-of-the-range version of traditional braces.
What problem does it solve?
It enables faster and gentler tooth movement, particularly in cases of narrow dental arches and severe crowding.
How does it work?
This technology does not require the usual rubber rings. A special, tiny sliding catch (clip) built into the bracket holds the wire in place, allowing it to move freely with minimal friction.
The benefits of the treatment
It moves the teeth using what are known as ‘biological soft forces’, which are much gentler on the periodontium and significantly reduce the uncomfortable sensation of tension at the start of treatment. As there is no friction, the total treatment time can be reduced by several months, and follow-up appointments at the practice are also required less frequently (every 6–8 weeks).
Self-ligating ceramic braces
Self-ligating ceramic braces represent the premium category of fixed orthodontic systems: they combine intelligent technology that operates using gentle forces with the aesthetic appeal of ceramic.
What problem does it solve?
Correction of complex dental irregularities with maximum comfort, speed and discretion.
How does it work?
The self-ligating bracket technology incorporates the metal archwire within a metal-free ceramic design. As it contains no rubber rings, it completely eliminates the risk of the fasteners becoming discoloured or yellowed.
The benefits of the treatment
As it has fewer parts, the device has an extremely flat and smooth profile; it does not irritate the inside of the mouth, is easy to clean, and moves the teeth quickly and almost painlessly.
Orthodontic mini-implants (TADs)
In modern orthodontics, mini-implants (TAD – Temporary Anchorage Device) are tiny microstructures made of medical-grade titanium, which serve as temporary anchors during complex tooth movements.
What problem does it solve?
It allows individual teeth or groups of teeth to be moved without the other teeth (as ‘non-anchor’ teeth) shifting in an undesirable direction. It helps to extract teeth that are impacted in the gums, to close an open bite, or to retract the dentition significantly.
How does it work?
Under local anaesthetic, in just a few minutes and completely painlessly, we insert the mini-implant into the bone between the teeth. We then attach the orthodontic appliance to this stable anchor point to achieve the desired movement.
The benefits of the treatment
In many cases, it can prevent the need for the extraction of permanent teeth or jaw surgery. At the end of treatment, the mini-implant can be removed without leaving any trace and without causing any pain.
Frequently Asked Questions

Does it hurt to have fixed braces fitted or adjusted?
Fitting the appliance is completely painless. For 2–5 days following fitting or bracket replacement, you may experience a slight feeling of tightness or pressure, which is a natural sign that your teeth are beginning to move. With self-ligating systems, this sensation is significantly milder.
How long does treatment with fixed braces take?
Depending on the severity of the malocclusion and the system chosen, the treatment duration is on average 12–24 months. With self-ligating systems, the treatment duration may be as much as 3–6 months shorter.
Do ceramic and sapphire inlays become discoloured from coffee or smoking?
Sapphire crystal and premium ceramic seals do not discolour at all. With traditional ceramic systems, the small rubber rings holding the seals in place can, over time, take on the colour of strongly pigmented foods (e.g. curry, coffee, red wine), but these are replaced with new ones at every service. Self-ligating ceramic braces do not use rubber rings at all, so there is absolutely no risk of yellowing.
How should fixed braces be cleaned?
With a fixed appliance, thorough oral hygiene is of the utmost importance. In addition to a conventional toothbrush, the use of a special single-tufted toothbrush, interdental brushes and dental floss is recommended for cleaning the areas beneath the brackets and archwires.
