Dental Hygiene

Most serious dental problems – such as tooth decay, gum inflammation, receding gums or premature tooth loss – can be prevented through appropriate and regular dental hygiene treatments. The aim of dental hygiene treatments is to remove the layer of bacteria (biofilm), which is often invisible to the naked eye, and hardened tartar, thereby eliminating inflammation and strengthening tooth enamel.

At Gere Dental, we place particular emphasis on prevention and gum health. Whether it’s the very latest, pain-free Swiss GBT (Guided Biofilm Therapy) Whether it’s a treatment plan or targeted gum regeneration and enamel-strengthening treatments, our expert dental hygienists will ensure the health of your teeth with personalised solutions.

The link between Smilezor® invisible braces and dental hygiene

The path to a perfect smile begins with cleanliness. Invisible orthodontic treatment is unthinkable without proper oral hygiene:

  • Before scanning: Before the 3D scan prior to Smilezor treatment compulsory Professional tartar removal. Digital impressions and planning accurate to a tenth of a millimetre can only be achieved on perfectly clean, smooth tooth surfaces.
  • During treatment: Smilezor aligners fit snugly over your teeth for 20–22 hours a day. It is particularly important not to trap bacteria or plaque under the aligners. Regular dental hygiene check-ups (every 3–6 months) and the Biosmalto enamel protection treatment ensure that your teeth remain healthy and free from decay even whilst undergoing orthodontic treatment.

GBT – Targeted Biofilm Therapy

GBT (Guided Biofilm Therapy) is the most advanced dental hygiene procedure currently available, based on a Swiss protocol, which redefines teeth cleaning from the ground up. The aim is not merely to remove hardened tartar, but to eliminate the invisible layer of bacteria (biofilm) that precedes it. The technology is so gentle that it is particularly recommended for those with sensitive teeth, as well as for those with dental implants or fixed braces.

How does GBT differ from traditional ultrasonic tartar removal?

CriterionConventional ultrasonic cleaningGBT (Guided Biofilm Therapy)
Main targetJust the hardened tartar. The Invisible biofilm (bacterial layer) and tartar.
VisibilityThe dental hygienist scrapes the tooth with the naked eye, „blind”.Using stencils In 100%, they make the contamination visible.
Technology usedVibrating metal instrument heads + hand scrapers.AIRFLOW® and PERIOFLOW® (warm water spray) + intelligent ultrasound.
Pain and comfortIt is often painful and uncomfortable due to the scraping of the metal and the cold water.Pain-free, with water at body temperature It works really well; it’s particularly convenient.
GentlenessIt may scratch the tooth enamel and damage the gums.It is extremely gentle on the gums and protects enamel, implants and braces.

How do we go about it?

1.

Diagnosis

An assessment of the condition of the teeth, gums and implants.

2.

Plakkfestand

We use a special dye to make the invisible biofilm (plaque) visible, highlighting the problem areas.

3.

Consultancy

Personalised advice on oral care at home, based on the identified critical areas.

4.

AIRFLOW® technology

Using a jet of water at body temperature and a fine powder, we wash away the soft plaque and discolouration.

5.

PERIOFLOW® technology

Using a special tip, we clean the deeper areas beneath the gums as well as the implants.

6.

PIEZON® smart ultrasound

We remove the already clearly visible, hardened tartar painlessly, using automatically controlled pressure.

7.

Quality control

Final check to ensure everything is spotlessly clean.

8.

Planning a call-back

Arranging the date for the next check-up.

Duration of treatment

45–60 minutes

Tartar removal (ultrasonic scaling)

It removes the hard, calcified plaque that has built up on the teeth, thereby preventing gingivitis and periodontal disease.

How do we go about it?

Using a special ultrasonic scalpel, we remove tartar from the tooth surface with micro-vibrations, whilst simultaneously destroying bacteria beneath the gums through continuous water cooling.

Duration of treatment

20–30 minutes

Sandblasting and polishing

What problem does it solve?

It removes stubborn stains caused by coffee, tea and smoking, even from hard-to-reach crevices, and leaves teeth as smooth as a mirror, thereby slowing down the formation of new tartar.

How do we go about it?

We clean the teeth using a combination of a high-pressure water jet and a fine, pleasant-tasting powder (Airflow), then polish them with soft brushes and toothpaste (Polishing).

Duration of treatment

20–30 minutes

Biosmalto treatment (Enamel regeneration)

What problem does it solve?

  • It stops early-stage, microscopic tooth decay,
  • strengthens weakened tooth enamel,
  • relieves unpleasant sensitivity at the base of the teeth (pain caused by hot or cold).

How do we go about it?

A special varnish or cream containing biomimetic microcrystals is applied to the teeth using a splint, and this is then incorporated into the tooth structure.

Duration of treatment

10–15 minutes

Curettage (closed and open)

What problem does it solve?

It puts an end to chronic bleeding gums and clears out the deep, inflamed pockets beneath the gums, thereby saving the bone that supports the teeth from destruction.

How do we go about it?

The procedure is completely painless and carried out under local anaesthetic. We use specialised hand-held instruments (curettes) and ultrasound to remove deep-seated tartar and inflamed tissue from the root surface.

Duration of treatment

30–60 minutes per quadrant (per quarter)

Hyaluronic acid gum treatment

What problem does it solve?

  • It speeds up the healing of the gums,
  • reduces gum inflammation,
  • helps the gums to reattach following surgery or curettage.

How do we go about it?

We apply medical-grade hyaluronic acid gel directly into the gum creases using a fine cannula, which deeply hydrates the tissues and stimulates cell regeneration. The treatment is completely painless.

Duration of treatment

10–15 minutes

Dental hygiene advice

What problem does it solve?

It helps ensure that the results of your dental cleaning last as long as possible, and that you look after your teeth properly at home too.

How do we go about it?

We’ll assess your oral hygiene, show you the correct toothbrushing technique (including how to use an electric toothbrush), and help you choose the right size interdental brushes and other tools.

Duration of treatment
